New skaters
To join the league, skaters must participate in one of our new skater sessions.
Sessions are designed for both experienced and beginning skaters to be able to firm up their skills and start learning the basics of roller derby. We will cover skater safety, gear, basic skating and basic derby with an eye towards making sure people are ready for success in the league. Skaters are required to have skates, helmet, all pads and a mouth guard to participate.
Unfortunately, at this point, sessions for the 2011-12 season are currently full, but please email us atnewskatercamp@seattlederbybrats.com if you are interested for next season. Please let us know your age, and current skating ability. We'll add you to our mailing list.
Where to get equipment
The folks at Fast Girl Skates in Walllingford are Derby skaters with the Rat City Rollergirls and are experts with fitting derby equipment. They do sell some consignment skates as well as having some pretty good entry level skate options that might work for you.
You can also check out ourpublic classifieds forum for deals on outgrown gear.
Where to work on your skating
Derby skate times are available at bothLynnwood Bowl and Skate andSouthgate Roller Rink.
